Slow week…
February 11, 2004 on 1:00 am | In Uncategorized | No CommentsI’m finally back to the full up schedule this week after the cancellations of the past two weeks. So, we had band for the first time since January. I think things went pretty well considering we had the past two weeks off because of weather. But while band is back, the exercise class at work is over. I started about half way through the session and it turns out to be the last session they are having. So, now I need to figure out something else. I’m not sure what to do. But the last class on Monday was a good class. I want to be able to do some cardio at home but I have no room for equipment. About all I have room for is jump rope (which I have) but that is a bit boring. I’ve been thinking about getting a small jogging trampoline. I like to bounce on trampolines so this might be a good combination of fun and exercise.I’m back on Noah’s Ark and my Ostriches are almost finished with their spa treatment and will be going the Valentine’s Day cruise in the Noah’s Ark forum on the TWBB. I’m also hoping to get a pair of rabbits to join the cruise. Then I’ll be done all the animals on the bottom border.I really want to work on my new sweater, so I’m thinking of having Sunday’s be knitting day. I’ve kind of doing that already (more like half a day) so I’m thinking about making it official.
Spring Valley in the depth of Winter
February 8, 2004 on 1:00 am | In Uncategorized | No CommentsI just noticed that the piece I’m working on right now is called Spring Valley… and this during the week when we got two “wintery mix” storms.I made lots of progress, but since this is the very first progress picture I’ve taken for this project, it is a bit hard for people to tell. I started the week with a bit in the gryphon’s shoulder. I’ve added to that plus started on his chest and the green grass beside him.
After stitching a bunch this weekend, I had enough, so I turned my attention to starting my new sweater, Gatsby. I redid the swatch with size 10 needles, but that was worse, so I’m going to stick with the 10.5. I figure it will work out since I can control the number of rows to match the size and the gauge for width was right on. I knitted the ribbing on the bottom and worked up a bit. I’m currently working on the waist shaping.
Life is too short…
February 6, 2004 on 1:00 am | In Uncategorized | No CommentsWarning… this isn’t a post about stitching or knitting…One of my co-workers died yesterday. Last time we saw him was Jan 30 I think. Feb 2nd and 3rd he was home because of the bad weather. On the 4th he called in sick, on the 5th he was in the hospital, on the 10th he had open heart surgery and last night he passed away. I’m not sure if he had any health problems before this, if so no one at work knew about it. It all came as quite a shock. Before, the only people who I’ve know that have died have been my grandparents. But as we get older the odds catch up and more people you know start to pass away. I’m still in a bit of a shock. I mean, this is a guy who has an office down the hall from me. I was talking to another co-worker when the admin was starting to pack up the office. I don’t think she has had to do that before. She was kind of at a loss as to what to pack. We suggested just the personal things like the photos of his kids. But it really makes me glad that instead of trying to tackle the very icy roads, I spent this morning cuddling my husband.
Elsebeth Lavold…
February 5, 2004 on 1:00 am | In Uncategorized | No CommentsHave you seen her newest book, Viking Knits Collection? I saw a couple of the designs from it in the fall Patternworks catalog. I’ve been wanting to do Liv since I saw it in the catalog. Well, I finally broke down and bought it. I also wanted to get some no 10 Birch needles since I’m fighting with the metal ones that DH’s scarf is on. And I decided to buy it from with a small wool shop in VA called Carodan Farm Wool Shop. Wendy Knits! mentioned them while back and I’ve had them bookmarked since then.Yoga was good last night. I can tell that she is stepping up the difficulty of the class (good thing otherwise I’d have been bored out of my gourd!). I’ve done most of the things she is teaching, but every now and then there is something new. I also like the pace. I took yoga for a bit from a health club I belonged to and they just kind of threw it all at you at once. I like this slow process because it makes sure that you know the basics and that you are truly ready for the next level before showing it to you.
Purple Haze is really purple…
February 4, 2004 on 1:00 am | In Uncategorized | No CommentsHonest!DH made a comment last night that my photo was too blue. So, I just fixed it and made it look more purple (at least according to this monitor…). So, if you viewed before this post, check out the new and improved purple swatch.I read the article on Knitty about swatching (wish I had read it yesterday). I didn’t do the 4 stitches of garter around my swatch to it isn’t really flat. I’m getting about 3.5 st/in in one direction and 4 st/in in the other… but I haven’t washed and blocked it yet. I’ll try that tonight and see if anything changes. And while the yarn says 3.5 st/in, the pattern actually calculates to 3.5 st/in in one direction and 4.75 st/in in the other.I worked on some last night on Treyvan too.
