Something most people don’t know…
April 29, 2004 on 12:00 am | In Uncategorized | No Comments… and that I don’t talk about that often…I have a fish in my office at work. I thought I would just come out and say it. It is quite funny at work. At least once a month someone says, “I didn’t know you have a fish.” And this is from people who have been coming in to my office for months! So, I thought I would tell the world… I HAVE A FISH. His name is Killer the Angel Fish. I just call him Killer for short. How did such a pretty fish get such a name you ask… Well, one of my co-workers said something to the affect of “you know you have to threaten me for me to take action.” Being the person that I am, I couldn’t come up with a good threat (come on, I’m 5′3″… how do I threaten a guy over 6 feet tall that weighs not quite double what I do?). So, I said, “Give me the information I need or I’ll send my killer angel fish after you.” Thus, he got his name. I wasn’t happy when a couple of months later he decided to live up to his name and eat my algae eater, Hoover. But I guess those two week vacation feeders really do only last two weeks and not three…
And can I just say… Yeah the TWBB is back!
Stitcher’s Five
April 26, 2004 on 12:00 am | In Uncategorized | No Comments1. Which do you prefer, Kits or Charts?
Charts!
2. Why?
Like most people, I buy designs and it could take a couple of years before I ever get to stitching them. I would rather buy just the chart so I can buy more designs instead of buying only a few kits.
3. How do you organise your materials before you stitch?
I don’t kit up a design until I’m ready to stitch. So, once I’m ready, I make sure I have all the materials I need. I collect everything into a bobbin box, cut my fabric, make working copies and start.
4. Do you do anything to the sides of your fabric before starting?
It depends on the size of the project. If it is a small project, no I don’t do anything. I just let it fray. If it is a large project that will take years, then I’ll use my mom’s machine and zig-zag the edges. My machine is too old to zig-zag.
5. What do you do with the leftovers when your done?
If the leftovers are from a kit, then they generally get tossed. If the leftovers were from a design I kitted myself, then they go back to general storage (floss chest).
Butterfly Update
April 25, 2004 on 12:00 am | In Uncategorized | No CommentsWell, I actually finished the butterfly front ahead of schedule. I managed to finished it Saturday night (while sitting through Fight Club with the DH). And I knit the antennae today. That just leaves assembly during the week.
Since I met my goals on the pillow for the weekend, I started on Apline Wings that I’m hoping to also give my niece with the pillow.
Stash!
April 24, 2004 on 12:00 am | In Uncategorized | No CommentsI took yesterday afternoon off to go shopping with Sue and Cathy. Cathy had a dentist appointment that morning so she took the entire day off. So, we took Cathy to the Hang Up so she could get the rest of her stuff for the flag she is working on (you know the small canvaswork one with lots and lots of specialty fibers!). So, while there since I had just picked up my paycheck and it was the first one with my raise (and some overtime). I decided that if I saw something I liked, I would get it. Sue and I both were drolling over Cross My Heart’s Eye of the Tiger, but she snagged it first. And we both pretty much saw this one about the same time. But I declared it was mine so I present… Textured Treasure’s Beauty and Peace:
Butterfly update: 66/103So, in case it isn’t obvious, I’m getting a drop spindle next weekend at the MD Sheep and Wool Festival. So, I’ve had yarn on the brain… and sheep (hey Sue, can that little lamb over there fit in the back of your Wrangler? hmmm… maybe we should take my RAV4 instead) and roving and all the cool stuff I’m learning so I can know what I’m doing when I get a good spindle. So, when the groomer walked out with Pushkin yesterday, there was a big pile of fluff on his carrier. First thought… does she want me to spin that? Well, no. She just wanted to show me all the huge mats my poor kitty was living with.
I’m such a bad mommy…
April 23, 2004 on 12:00 am | In Uncategorized | No CommentsI took Pushkin to the groomer for the first time in almost a year (he should have gone six months ago!!!). His mats were so bad, that he ended up with another lion cut. And I had promised him I would never do that again. (background: when I first got him, he had been matted for atleast one year and had to be sedated to be shaved). This time he didn’t need to be sedated, but I got a lecture from the groomer… I’m so bad… I need to make sure I at least try to brush him more *and* get him to the groomer every 3-6 months. Poor poor Pushkin… at least daddy was around to try and console him after we got home…
All he wanted was some loving… “how could you do this to me… you really need to make it up to me some how…”
“Mommy! Shoving a camera in my face is not the way to do that…”
“Enough!… I’m outta here!”
Butterfly update: I’m on row 56/103.
