The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
August 25, 2005 on 12:00 am | In Uncategorized | No CommentsOkay, it is really the horrible, the good and the great but well, I just couldn’t resist the title. So, the horrible news first. I took my oboe into the shop to get fixed yesterday and she said that she couldn’t do anything for it. It is beyond repair. The good is that she didn’t charge me for the tinkering she did and that I have my oboe back (for whatever that is worth). And the great news… I talked to my DH last night and he is going to buy me a new oboe as a combined birthday/Christmas/Valentines/Anniversary/… gift. The actual number of gift occassions still is open and probably depends on what I end up with.
First Page Almost done!

I have maybe one more rotation before my first page of Spring Valley is complete. I think it looks great and is finally starting to look like a gryphon. I also took a look at the chart to figure out where I would go next (up) and I think that the square I working on right now might be the worst one confetti wise. So, it should be smoother sailing from here.
I forgot my camera on Saturday or I would should you my progress on the frog stained glass. I finished grinding all the pieces and then Carol helped me with the pinning. We took a short break so I could teach her to spin (on one of the extra toy wheel drop spindles) and then we foiled the frog pieces. I quickly flat soldered the pieces together and we called it a night. Carol took some pictures, but she hasn’t emailed them to me yet.

Too many interests not enough time
August 18, 2005 on 12:00 am | In Uncategorized | No CommentsMy wheel is out of commission until the replacement part comes in (it was back ordered). The thread/rope holding the back apron on to warp roller broke on my loom (easy to fix, just need to tie it back on with something stronger). So, it feels like my fibery ambitions have come to a halt for now. But I did buy yarn to make towels as a birthday gift of my SIL. My DH picked out the colors for the stripes (red and yellow) and I got natural for the main part to tone down his choices.
So, after my weekend get-away with the girls, I’m back to stitching. I made great progress on Phoenix and on Monday I moved on to Spring Valley. I have visions of finishing the page either this rotation or next. I’ve decided I’m going to head up a page next. That should go quickly since the isn’t as much confetti in the mountains. And then since next week is my free week (four week rotation in a five week month), I’m going to be good and work on Noah’s ark since I didn’t touch it earlier this month.
Weekend Recap
August 15, 2005 on 12:00 am | In Uncategorized | No CommentsThis past weekend was our 2nd annual Coolfont stitching retreat. I wove, I stitched, and I knitted. I did bring my drop spindle but it stayed in the bag all weekend. It was a wild weekend (okay maybe not), but it was definitely fun.
Sue got a little crazy and ended up with a lamp shade on her head. Here she is posing with my new lamb, Peppermint (named after the chalet we stayed in).

But this is how we spend almost the entire weekend…
A variety of projects were worked on: L&L’s Celtic Summer, Chatelaine’s Misty Morning Vineyard, Dracolair’s Phoenix (x3), Dracolair’s Dragon Knot Bookmark, Dimension’s Brilliant Butterfly Celebration, Mirabilia’s Petal Fairy, Frank Lloyd Wright Waterlillies, and Stoney Creek’s Noah’s Sub.
I worked on my Phoenix when I wasn’t weaving or knitting. Here is my progress on Phoenix.

I also worked on my Tivoli

And of course I did my first weaving sample. I did some plainweave, twill, mock satin, double weave twill, and in general was just playing around.
