New Toy
May 31, 2006 on 12:00 am | In Uncategorized | No CommentsI swear I wrote this out earlier today, but I guess I was still editting it and never saved it before I went off to do something else.
Well, I bought a new toy, a 4G iPod Nano in white. I had iPod envy and I told myself that if I got onto the NZ Habitat team that I would upgrade. I also have been wanting one recently so I can go running by myself without getting bored to tears. My old mp3 player was the size of a portable CD player from the 80’s. And I think it is a hard drive and not a flash drive so it would probably skip if I tried to lug it running.
While I was installing iTunes last night, I rinsed out the warp I painted on Monday.

I’m very happy with the colors. If I have time I’ll start warping the loom tonight. Hopefully this will turn out something close to what I planned.
Back in the swing of things
May 30, 2006 on 12:00 am | In Uncategorized | No CommentsI stitched, wove, and spun this weekend. Okay in actuality I mostly stitched, but I also I measured out a warp and painted it, and I spun a bit of BFL to sample.
I’m getting really close to finishing the first page of Jupiter Abstract.

A while back I bought a painted warp kit from Halcyon so I played with that yesterday. I mixed up Anitque Rose, Goldenrod, and Yellow Green from directions I found on All About Hand Dyeing. I’ll rinse it out tonight and see what it looks like. I’m planning on making a painted warp scarf for my MIL for her birthday. I’m thinking alternating stripes of painted warp and plain white with a white weft. I’ll play for a bit and see what happens.

I also spun up some of the BFL that I bought at MDS&W at the beginning of the month. It was my first experience with BFL and boy was it nice. No pictures, it was only a small amount. I’m attempting to improve my spinning (more consistant thickness and more twist). I’m getting better, but…
June 17th…
May 24, 2006 on 12:00 am | In Uncategorized | No CommentsIf everything works out, I’ll be getting my hair chopped off on June 17th. I currently have enough hair (10″ minimum) to donate to Locks of Love. I’ve only been growing it for oh, a couple of years now. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with it so I had decided to grow it and donate it. And the time has finally come. And boy I can’t wait! I’ve known since winter that I’d probably have enough length to finally get it cut this summer. I’ll be sure to get some before and after pictures.
I have a co-worker who did the same thing about two weeks ago and I really like her new hair cut. I’m tempted to go take pictures of her and get something similar, well minus the highlights.
So, the count down has begun, T-24 days…
Crafty Weekend
May 22, 2006 on 12:00 am | In Uncategorized | No CommentsI had a very crafty weekend and not necessarily by design. I spent all of Saturday trying to finish some things up. Mostly the UFO RR and two hedgehogs that are going to be birthday gifts for my new youngest nieces on the 27th.

I also did dyed my MKTDF (Machine Knitting to Dye For) blank that I did for ribby shell. I was hoping for an orangish color instead I got a flesh color. I might try again or overdye the entire thing, I’m not sure yet.
Sunday morning I was rinsing the MKTDF blank and my back went spoing. So, I spent the rest of the day in a chair with the heating pad. I’m now at work sitting in front of my computer with a heating pad. But since I made my goals (UFO RR and hedgehogs), I pulled out Jupiter Abstract and put some work in on that. I still have the rest of the week (except for Wednesday which is for Dreaming Mermaid) to work on it some more.

And probably the most exciting news, my mom and I have been formally invited to be a members of the Habitat for Humanity Global Village team going to New Zealand in late October!

In other news, I’m going to be making two more hedgehogs as birthday presents for my two youngest nieces (the oldest one is going to be getting Chronicles of Narnia book and movie). I bought some really soft eyelash yarn at Joann’s on Saturday in blue and orange.
And I was bad, instead of working on the UFO RR (which I have to mail in one week!), I continued to work on Dreaming Mermaid…
