I make lots of people smile!
October 31, 2007 on 9:32 am | In Uncategorized | 1 CommentI’ve been nominated not once, but twice for the “You Make Me Smile” award! First by Christine at Mtrl Girl’s Material World on Monday and then again by Suz over at Woozle Madness yesterday.

Now I get to pick 10 people. Why do I get the feeling that this is going to become circular?

Okay, gotta go… I have a peer review in half an hour and then an afternoon of team building. I have some pictures from Sunday (it went surprisingly well). I’ll try to get them uploaded some day soon.
Watch out for the crazy people…
October 25, 2007 on 11:46 am | In Uncategorized | 1 Comment[edit] Just a quick update… I’m in! I just got my Ravelry invite![/edit]
This is what you get when you try to take a picture of you and your DH…

And then when your sister comes to your rescue you get something a little nicer…

For grandma’s birthday we got her a digital picture frame, so we are getting lots of pictures of the family to put on it. I have pictures of the little guy (4D scan ones) and the cat and Traci’s kids, but none of us. So, while we were over last night (Scott needed to install his speakers for the haunted house this weekend), I took a group shot of the Traci’s kids and we got a nice one of us for the frame. I put the crazy one on my frame, but I’ll spare grandma.

Well, duh…
October 24, 2007 on 8:40 am | In Uncategorized | No CommentsI’ve been getting lots of comment spam lately. But since I have my comments set so that I have to moderate the very first comment (and then afterwards it knows you), it is being caught before being posted. I was confused because the Akismet plugin was installed but I was still getting spam.
Well, duh… I hadn’t activated it yet! And I needed to sign up to get an API key too. I finally realized that this morning and now Akismet is activated and should start to capture all that spam I’ve been getting. Psst, Sue, you might want to check your plugin status too.
This weekend we visited DH’s sister who we haven’t seen since July. We traded birthday gifts (hers was in August, mine was in September) and she gave me boxes of baby clothes. She has all of my nephews’ clothes saved in the attic. I only took up to 9 months I think (but there were some 9-12m stuff in there too). I feel much better about the clothes situation. I was afraid the little guy would only have the few outfits that Aunt Traci had given him and that I’ve bought.
I was hoping to get pictures of my two nephews but I forgot my camera. And I forgot to print the 4D scan pictures of my in-laws (MIL goes over every Sunday for a bit to visit with the boys). At least with those, I was about to show them on line. I might still print a set for my MIL.
It is amazing how many things I’ve forgotten lately. I have to pick up a baby gate to keep the cat out of the den (and it will come in handy later when the little guy gets mobile and wants to follow the cat down to the basement). I forgot to get paper to print 8×10s for Traci’s wall (I’ll do that at lunch and print them tonight before I go over for dinner). I’m sure there are other things… but I’ve forgotten them…
Progress in the Den
October 22, 2007 on 10:31 am | In Uncategorized | 3 CommentsSince the nursery is mostly finished, I went back to working on the den (I started working on that room some time earlier this year, can’t remember exactly when but definitely before Easter). But DH has a guy coming out to size our windows for plantation shutters and I really think the moulding around the window needs to be in place for that (we disagree on this point if you can’t tell). So on Saturday I sanded the two walls I already had primed and patched. And yesterday I started to paint.
As a reminder, the walls in the den had that tacky 70’s wood paneling which I tore off. Luckily there was drywall behind but it required a lot of repair work. First I had to seal and prime the walls (more sealing the torn drywall than priming). Then I patched up the torn spots to get a flat wall (more or less). I did the first coat of Jack O’ Lantern yesterday and I think it looks pretty good. I tried to take pictures this morning, but I didn’t realize until I got to work that I think I left the focus on manual (after cropping down you can’t tell how horrible the focus really is). I probably have a picture at home somewhere of the before walls with the wood paneling. But I haven’t looked yet. Until then you get where the walls are as of this morning (in various stages).
I think of this room as a bonus room. I think the plans orginially had this room as a one car garage (thus the door going outside which is a second door on the front porch). But because of the way our property is, we have a two car garage in the basement instead.
The moulding in the room is all dark wood (to go with the dark wood paneling). When the previous owners put new windows in the house, they did this room with fake wood vinyl instead of the white vinyl like the rest of the house. So, I decided to go bold (I keep telling DH that people will be able to see that we are not afraid of color!). Some people might think the orange would make the room look small and dark. But compared to the paneling that was there, it is bright and huge! Plus that double window faces South. I think after we get all the moulding back in place (even crown moulding), it will look great.
So far I’ve done all the work in this room by myself (DH did help haul away the panels after I tore them off the wall and moved the moulding downstairs).
Not even a hint of Evil…
October 19, 2007 on 12:16 pm | In Uncategorized | 3 CommentsOver on Suz and Ann’s (and maybe a couple of other people) blogs is a little “How evil are you?” quiz. Should I be surprised that I’m not evil at all? I do have to say that I’m disappointed in the last question. I fantasy about science more than about the other things on the list (as in sci-fi and wouldn’t it be cool if…). But I don’t think that would make me any more evil. Oh well.
