Welcome Oliver!

My good friends Mirella and George had their little boy on Sunday! The little guy was born via emergency C-section and sounds long and skinny (5 lbs 13 oz and 19.75 inches). In comparison to Henry, that is a pound lighter and 1/4 of an inch shorter. What pictures I’ve seen so far makes me think he looks like his daddy. But isn’t that the old wives tale? That babies are born looking like their daddy so the daddy knows for sure?

Now I just have to bide my time until I get the okay to come over and visit! They have lots of friends and family in the area, so I think it might be crazy for a while. Or it could be like for us, I had maybe a half dozen visits during my entire 3 month maternity leave.

So, of the three people I knew who were due in November, they have all had their babies (due dates ranged from Nov 7 - Nov 25). I still have a pair of socks to finish up for the one born last week. I was frantically trying to finish the sock before my co-worker disappeared. But he disappeared before I finished the second sock. He’s coming back to work next week so I’ll finish it up this weekend.

Well, that was quick.   Last I posted, Henry had five teeth almost here.  Well, that night one arrived.  Then in the past week another arrived.  He is now working on the 3rd tooth in 2 weeks.  After this we have the molars and canines.  Ouch!

We had fun on Friday.  We went to the local parade with Catherine, Stephen, and Noah.  Too bad it was a Friday, otherwise more of the local marching bands would have been able to come.  Only 2 bands made it to the parade and I missed the band from the school we practice at on Tuesday nights.  So, I only got to see one marching band in the parade.  I think next year we will go to my sister’s to go trick or treating with his cousins.

Teething woes

My little cannibal baby is back to chewing everything in sight (with a preference for mommy and daddy).  He has also been waking up around 5am (the nights we give him some pain relief before bed, otherwise sooner than that).  Last night was pretty painful (for both of us!).  He was not only trying to chew my chin, cheek, shoulder and arms, he was also lashing out with his little claws (I needed to trim his nails).  I felt like good old Bob (Body Opponent punching Bag).

It is surprising how many people recommend putting my finger into his mouth and massaging his gums… Excuse me, but did you continue to do that once your baby had 5 teeth?  Sure I did that for the first one, but no way am I sticking my fingers in there now to massage his gums.  Also, 5 teeth?  He’s been stuck at 5 teeth for 5 weeks!  You know how they say that the teeth usually come in pairs… usually is the key word in that sentence.  For the past two weeks I’ve been saying he has 5 teeth with 5 more on the way!  No wonder the little guy is in so much pain.  I know that eventually they will all be here, but I’m hoping it is sooner rather than later.

My sister… the teacher!

Haven’t gotten the official email from my sister, but she posted on her blog that she got the teaching job she was applying for! Okay, it isn’t like she is now a teacher and she wasn’t before. She has been a teacher since she left high school. First at a daycare center, then home daycare, then a private elementary school (3rd or 4th grade), then back to home daycare. Now she is going to be a teacher (either K or Pre-K, haven’t gotten the details yet) at a new Goddard School opening near her.

And to continue with the Henry standing news (I meant to say a couple of seconds not minutes in yesterday’s post), he stood and clapped for 5 seconds at daycare yesterday!

Standing standing standing…

Get that baby Standing…

Not the most flattering picture of him (his belly really isn’t that big!), well except for his face which is really cute and I love the little squat. Multiple times over the weekend I caught him standing by himself for a couple of minutes. Scott say he stood for like 5 seconds yesterday. They were outside and Henry was looking at a leaf in his hand and just stood there.

On Sunday, Aunt Traci let him play with an older walker she had from when her girls were little (when I say walker, I really mean those push/ride on toys, something similar to this). He was going to town. At one point he had a block in one hand to chew and was strolling along holding on with the other. Then later with daddy, he was using both hands but was almost running!
