Mommy’s Monkey’s

August 11, 2008 on 2:19 pm | In Henry, Knitting | 3 Comments

We had a family birthday party for my mom’s milestone birthday. She got the same gift as my sister. A pair of socks and a Caribbean cruise (the three of us leave in one month!). These are knit with Knit Picks Color Your Own Sock yarn. Since yellow is my mom’s favorite color, I dyed them to be slightly variegated. I think I did these with the Machine Knitting to Dye For method (which Knit Picks now sells as blanks).

I’ve seen this on a couple of other blogs so I sent this to the Thermalhubby (Mr T.). His answers are really funny…

Me: What is your favorite thing about my knitting?
Mr T: Socks… oooh socks
Me: What is your least favorite thing about my knitting?
Mr T: Random projects lying around the house and the time we lost the cat for three days in a pile of yarn
Me: What is something I have knitted that you recall as being good?
Mr T: oooh… socks… mmmm… I’m sorry what was the question?
Me: Do you think knitters have an expensive hobby?
Mr T: Not compared with those crazy cross stitchers.
Me: Do you have any hobbies?
Mr T: Sure
Me: What are your hobbies?
Mr T: Leather working, gardening, Kendo, catapult design and building
Me: If we compared money spent on hobbies, who would win?
Mr T: Probably me (The pumpkins for catapulting put me over the top)
Me: Has my knitting in public ever embarrassed you?
Mr T: Not since you stopped knitting while driving.
Me: Do you know my favorite kind of yarn?
Mr T: …ah …sure …ah …next question please
Me: Can you name another blog?
Mr T: Yeah sure… um… there’s the one… with the ah… next question please
Me: Do you mind that I want to check out yarn stores everywhere we go?
Mr T: They sell yarn in stores now? Then why the heck do we have all these sheep?
Me: Do you understand the importance of a swatch?
Mr T: Yes, tells you the time (i.e. how long you’ve been knitting)
Me: Do you read my blog?
Mr T: You have blog? Is it contagious?
Me: Have you ever left a comment?
Mr T: No, but I have left a tip.
Me: Do you think the house would be cleaner if I didn’t knit?
Mr T: No, I remember the cross stitch days.
Me: Is there anything you would like to add in closing?
Mr T: This is just between you and me right?

Conversations with Henry - This weekend it has felt like I’ve had actual conversations with the little dude. This morning he was playing with my shoe and I needed it back. So after I asked him for it and he eventually let it go (which I thanked him for), I told him he will get his own shoes after he can walk. They would be smaller but one day they would be as big as mommy and daddy’s. So, he holds out his hands so he could pull himself up and then proceeds to “walk”. Yes, you can walk. So, where are your shoes? Funny little guy.

I was also pondering this morning the magic of little boy hugs. Yesterday he wrapped his little arms around me and gave me a nice hug. I think I read some where the difference between little girl and little boys hugs are that the boys hug with their entire body. I’ll have to find a little girl to hug to compare (should have tested the theory on Saturday when I was around my 3yo niece).

That would be the noise our fridge made Friday night after it gasped its last breath.  We moved the baby milk from that fridge to the one down in the basement that night.  Good thing because the next day everything was quickly warming up to room temperature.  We moved the rest of the stuff Saturday before heading out to my sister’s.  On the way home, we stopped by Sears and bought ourselves a new fridge (and Scott called about an hour ago to say it was delivered).

I also finished my monkey and gave her to my oldest niece.  I’ve been calling her Funky Sherbert (because of the Sherbert BM colorway).  My only disappointment is that I didn’t have enough Sherbet yarn.  I had to modify the directions for the ears so I wouldn’t run out.  The kit is suppose to have enough yarn to make a large monkey and a small monkey.  I started the small monkey, but I had to find a different yarn to accent the Fire on the Mountain (I used Knit Picks Shine Sport in turquoise).

Henry also had a big day on Saturday…

Having a Great Day!

Yesterday was only okay until about 5:00 yesterday evening when I called Catherine to see how Noah was doing. While he is still in the PICU things are going very well. He is off the breathing tube and has started to eat. They are slowly detangling him (he is off some meds and will be off some others soon). If things continue to go well he will be out of the PICU this weekend and possibly home some time next week.

After hearing that news, my day got much better. But it doesn’t end there! Shortly after I got home I stuck my finger in Henry’s mouth and noticed this…

His first tooth has broken through and the second won’t be far behind. I’m still trying to figure out why I decided to check his gums. I think it was the drenched bib from all his drooling.

But wait that’s not all… I got an email that my funky sock monkey kit has shipped! After they posted on their blog about being over run by monkeys and to have patience during the time of monkey madness, I was sure it would be a couple of more weeks before it shipped. I actually have a hope of finishing at least one monkey before next weekend’s birthday party (for my sister’s three girls).

And that wasn’t the only shipment notification I received last night. Henry’s new car seats have shipped and should arrive tomorrow. I talked to Scott last night and we are going to wait until he hits 22 pounds (limit for the infant car seat) before moving him to the new car seat.

Funky Sock Monkey

If you don’t read the Yarn Harlot, then you might not know about the adorable little sock monkeys that were knit at sock camp (I’ll wait here while you go look it up, this link might help). So, the pattern is now available as well as kits. And since I always wanted to try Socks that Rock (the socks monkeys are knit with heavyweight) and my niece loves monkeys, I figured I’d knit a monkey for her birthday! I’ll have about two weeks to get the monkey finished in time for the party (but her actual birthday was last week, she turned 14). I got kit #6, fire on the mountain and sherbet.

So, until I can show pictures of the monkey in progress, here is a boy enjoying his new toy. Oh and as a follow up to Friday’s post, I found my book that evening (after a month of searching!). Scott was a bit bummed since his plan for mother’s day was to get me a replacement book, which would have been awesome if it was still lost. Henry also has stopped needing his 4am bottle (yay!) and is slowly getting back to sleeping thru the night. Last night he woke us up twice (I only remember once). I went in to find him almost sideways with his head rammed again the side. I’m surprised we haven’t found him on his belly yet since he is such the rolling monster now (but can’t roll front to back yet so he gets stuck).

Shawn the sheep!

Yeah!  About a month ago I posted in the Wagon’s For Sale Trade section that I was looking for a copy of Simply Knitting December 2007 for the Shawn the sheep mobile (sorry the only link I have is on Ravelry).  Timmy even has a pacifier!  Yesterday I got a response!  Maxine in UK (stitchmaster) kept only the mobile part is up for a trade.  Yay!

In other crafty news, part three of world domination is under way… oh wait that is suppose to be a secret… I’m almost finish DJ the stingray from Jeanette Crew Design’s Bath Buddies (shh, it is a gift for my favorite 13 month old who I’m going to see on Sunday).

In Henry news, I’m hoping he is almost tanked up for his upcoming growth spurt.  He usually sleeps thru the night, but for the past three nights he has been waking up multiple times and wanting a 4 am bottle.  He also hates his pacifier.  We’ve been using the soothie that the hospital gave us.  I also have an ortho-pro from Playtex that I got for free from Babies R Us and he doesn’t like that one either.  He was never a big pacifier baby, but it helped with getting him to sleep.  Now we have to come up a whole new routine since the old one just isn’t working anymore.  I would read up in my Baby Whisperer Sovles All Your Problems book, but I lost it!  Whaaa.
